About Us
Animal Dermatology & Allergy was founded in 1996
In July, 2021, after working together for 8 years, our founder Dr. Andrea Cannon sold Animal Dermatology & Allergy to Dr. Becky Sakai.
Animal Dermatology & Allergy employs some of the best veterinary staff in the country. Juliann is a registered veterinary technician and member of the Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians. She is a certified veterinary technician specialist (VTS Dermatology). This certification is held by only a handful of veterinary technicians in the world. Steph, Mason, Stephanie, Brianna, and Rich make up the rest of our amazing team. Their level of service, knowledge, and experience will make you and your pet feel welcomed and well taken care of.
Our Team
DVM, DACVD
Dr. Sakai started her educational journey here in California, at UC Berkeley. She then completed veterinary school at Kansas State University, a veterinary internship in New Jersey, and finally a veterinary dermatology residency at Iowa State University. Dr. Sakai earned board certification from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2011. She made her way back to California in 2011 to begin practicing veterinary dermatology.
Dr. Sakai enjoys working with primary care veterinarians, veterinary staff, and pet owners to improve the quality of life in patients with chronic skin and ear problems such as allergies, autoimmune disease, difficult infections, and more. Dr. Sakai strongly believes in the importance of educating people about their pet’s dermatologic disease, and feels this is an integral part of a successful treatment plan.
When not in the office, she spends time with her husband and two daughters. The family is expecting a yellow Labrador retriever puppy in Spring 2023!

Brianna
Customer Service Representative
Brianna has been in customer service for over five years, has an associate’s degree in business management, and started with Animal Dermatology and Allergy in 2022. She is married with two fur babies. Her two fur babies are Bow, a Standard Poodle, and Nahko, a cute four-way mutt. When Brianna is not at work her favorite things to do are finding new walking trails, crafting, or drinking espresso and cooking.

Jon
Veterinary Assistant
Jon started with Animal Dermatology & Allergy in 2023, and has worked as a veterinary assistant for years prior. Jon would like to pursue his DVM degree in the future, and has specific interests in dermatology and orthopedic medicine. While not at work, you can find him outdoors, either with his camera, snowboarding, hiking, or spending time with friends.

Juliann
Veterinary Technician
Juliann has been in the veterinary field since 2009, has been an RVT since 2012, and part of the Animal Dermatology & Allergy team since 2013. Juliann obtained the prestigious Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) certification in Dermatology in 2017. She is passionate about client communication and making sure pet owners feel supported in every step of their pet’s treatment. Juliann has 3 kids and 2 dogs (Bernese Mountain Dog and Chihuahua). While not at work she enjoys spending time with her kids, baking up a new treat, or binge-watching her favorite television shows.

Mason
Veterinary Assistant
Mason has worked in the veterinary industry since 2014 and has been with Animal Dermatology & Allergy since 2019. She started her veterinary career in New Zealand, while living there with her husband. She moved back to the states in 2016 where she continued to develop her veterinary technical skills. Mason enjoys speaking with pet owners and providing excellent care to their cats and dogs. Mason and her husband have one daughter and a dog. When not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family hiking, paddle boarding, swimming and snow shoeing.

Customer Service Representative
Steph has been in the veterinary industry since 2005 and joined the team at Animal Dermatology & Allergy in 2020. Steph is passionate about providing top-notch client care. She is married, with 2 kids. Steph and her family have 2 senior cats named Taylor and Isabelle, and a younger cat named Piper. When Steph is not working she is spending her spare time at her daughter’s sporting events, catching up on her favorite tv shows, or reading a good book.

Practice Manager
Dr. Richard Sakai joined the team in 2021, bringing over 40 years of hospital and retail pharmacy experience with him. Rich prides himself in helping provide state of the art care for the pets being seen at Animal Dermatology and Allergy. He supports the team in our effort to educate pet owners about complex dermatologic issues and design a custom treatment regimen for each patient.
